Jokes aside for a moment

mindset the wellness report Oct 29, 2024

I've always been quite an upbeat guy.

If there's a laugh to be had, you best believe I'm having it.

I also try to be positive as I can because I don't see the point in much else.

But if there's one thing I'm not,

It's delusional.

I'm very much a realist and that's exactly what today's email is about.

A story broke on the news recently which has had quite the impact on me,

And it's what I'm to sharing with you today...

Tomorrow Is Promised To Nobody

Now before I get stuck into this I want to be completely transparent with my objective for this email.

Fear!

Plain and simple I want to strike a little fear into you.

Why on earth would I want to do that?

Well because sometimes it's the only thing that will work to make people take action.

I can provide all the helpful tips, insights, and strategies possible to help you live a healthier & happier life,

But that doesn't mean you are going to take action on any of it.

Fear, while not an ideal motivator, does have a habit of producing results.

Here's a hypothetical situation for you:

Imagine you lost everything.

Money, job, assets, the lot.

And you had a month to come up with the money to pay for your mortgage,

Or else you and your family were out on the streets.

I guarantee you that the fear of being homeless would kick your butt into gear and you would move heaven and earth to earn the money.

That's fear driving motivation to produce results.

Or how about the athlete who doesn't want to lose.

That fear of failure pushes them to train hard every day so it never becomes reality.

You can see that in some instances fear can produce excellent results.

Now you know all this...

It's time to talk about Sir Chris Hoy.

I think it's natural that the older you get, the more empathetic you get.

Personally speaking I've always been a very empathetic person, but in recent years I've noticed it getting stronger and stronger.

This is why his story sat me down in my seat and really made me think for a few moments.

A little background on Chris.

He's one of Great Britains greatest ever Olympians with 6 gold medals,

As well as being an 11-time world champion.

As an Olympic indoor track cyclist his strength and fitness levels would have been out of this world!

He would have reached levels that 99% of the population, ever, could only dream of.

Actually not even dream of because it's that far out of reach!

But as strong, fit, and healthy as he was,

Last week he shared the sad news that he had stage 4 terminal cancer...

Saying his doctors have given him only 2-4 years left to live.

Like what the hell man!

Life can be so damn cruel.

He busted his ass for decades training, eating, and recovering,

So he became a specimen of a human being and smashed world records,

All to be told his life is getting cut short.

Now he's taken it like the champ he is and is taking a positive outlook it,

But man o man that's tough.

Now I'm not here to make you feel sorry for Chris,

Rather, like I said at the very start of this email,

I intend to scare you in the nicest way possible.

It is halloween in a few days after all.

Now I don't know how he lived his life, but I do know that in order to have achieved the things he did,

This man would have lived a healthier life than most.

He would have strength trained regularly.

Eaten very well to aid performance and recover.

I know for a fact that sleep was a big priority for his olympic team in 2012.

His cardiovascular strength would have been off the charts.

All things that point to a very healthy and long life.

But as we all know, life just isn't that simple.

So, if you're reading this right now and you're not currently doing everything in your power to live a long and healthy life.

Why on earth not?

We owe it to the people who have had their live stolen from them early,

To do everything in our power to live as long, happy, and healthy as possible!

In my opinion anything else is disrespectful.

Tragedy impacts us all and we all know someone who was taken from us early.

Personally speaking I've had someone in my life who I was really close to lost way too early through cancer.

Now this isn't a cancer thing,

This is a life thing.

You and I have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow.

I could go out and get knocked down by a bus and that's it for me.

There are some things that are out of our control - like certain illnesses.

BUT there are things that we can do to improve the quality and longevity of our lives.

Like not being 25 pounds overweight or constantly sleep deprived.

Or hitting the gym a few days a week and managing our stress levels.

And doing cardio to strengthen your heart and help you live longer.

While some things are completely out of our hands,

These things are 100% in our hands!

We decide whether or not to do them.

We decide if we're going to skip the gym again today.

We decide if our meetings are more important than our well-being.

I'm not going to keep going on but I truly hope I've been able to get my point across.

If you're smashing things in the gym and you're focused on your health,

Keep up the amazing work.

But if you're struggling at the moment and you know your current situation is dire,

Please take action right now!

You owe it to your family, friends, and most importantly, yourself.

If you need some advice or you have any questions on what you need to do,

Please reach out and I'll give you my time.
